Sonic's New Slushy Drink Has Everyone Scratching Their Heads

Sonic's Drive-In wasted no time to announce the release of a new slush-ice drink flavor. Just in time for summer, right? Well, I don't know if the flavor will have you drool or cringe. The fast-food chain, known for its popular burgers and snow-cone slushy drinks, debuted its latest flavor on June 11th via tweet and guess what it is? Pickle Juice!

The bright green drink shocked me, being that I was expecting it to be more of a sour apple taste - maybe. I would we would be satisfied with sour apple rather than pickle juice, and obviously, I wasn't alone with that thought. Consumers took to Twitter to express their feeling to the brands decision of flavor choice. The opinions were mixed, both producing a bit of "I want to try this drink" and "What the hell was Sonic thinking?" - not in those exact words of course.

Scott Uehlein, the company's vice president of product innovation and development had this to say in a statement:

"Sonic's guests are game to try adventurous and fun flavors, so we've made it our mission to deliver the best of both worlds when it comes to innovation and variety."

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, which brings up the question many of you guys are pondering: How does it taste? There is a taster from the Food & Wine magazine who describes the newbie as "sweet and tangy". I know, ironic isn't it? The taster also added a more in-depth opinion on the article found on the magazine's website.

"The only gripe is that the slush is a bit too sweet, as if over-correcting for the acidity, but maybe this is what has to happen for America to acclimate to — and embrace — a pickle-flavored soft drink."

The other flavors included in the line-up are Tiger's Blood, Blue Hawaiian and Bahama Mama.
