What would you consider to be the dirtiest item within your - or any - household? Most would say the toilet, solely because it is an item heavily utilized at home. That's where people let out their end-of-day release, right? Hey, maybe even the trash can would come up if we were playing on Family Feud. Well, you are wrong and research has taken the time to prove this theory. Below, you will find a list of other items that are by far the most filthiest of the all:

Cosmetics, Make-Up Bags and Brushes

There was a study done by beauty brand Ecsentual and London Metropolitan University where they figured out that bacteria lies in the cosmetics that you use when they are out dated. They studied five different make-up products, where they found a total of six different kinds of bacteria due to the product being sold after its "use before" dates. Did you even know that make-up has an expiration date? I didn't, so this was definitely something good to learn.

Furthermore, you hold the items that you use on your skin in a make-up bag. This specific bag can be brought in any kind of thrift or beauty supply store, where it prevents the makeup from making a mess in your pocketbook. Other than the make-up, you hold the accessories used to apply the cosmetics to the skin in there. Well, you may want to check out the items that are present. The sponges and brushes come in contact with the skin (i.e. powdering your nose on a date), then you go ahead and place them back in your make-up bag, bring in the everyday bacteria that may lie on the skin to that concealed bag. After that, you may use the the accessories again to do the same thing later in the day. Gross right?

Smartphones

These days, just about everyone owns a cellular device. It's one of our many means of communication. You can make a phone call, check your email and even let the world know what you just ate for lunch using one of today's popular social platforms. But did you know that your device may hold ten times more bacteria that your own toilet seat? Even a bacteria called staphylococcus, which I've never heard of. Studies show that about 75% of our population generally take their cellphones with them to the restroom. Apparently, no one reads magazines anymore during a number two. It's crazy because we literally use this everyday. Heck, I'm even on my phone now writing up this article. Eew!

Mops

Well, how ironic, isn't it? You want to be part of the heavy duty clean up brigade on the weekends, only to find out that you may be spreading more germs in the home than you think. Let's just say that you don't want to know the amount of dirt that can be found on the floors of your home. And we definitely aren't going to get into the topic of using a broom and dustpan. I will say that the mop is a wet item, often used to wax and clean a floor after it is swept. But the idea of it actually getting the cleaning job done is just a myth, honestly speaking.

Filters

Hence the fact that the filters found within a dryer or a refrigerator are meant to capture the dirt, lint and bacteria from entering, they also will get clogged. Once the filters are unchanged, the dirt will overload and then you no longer have anything protecting your clothing or what you eat. How often do you change your lint and dirt catcher? I suggest that you check the lint box in the dryer or the filter tray located under your fridge immediately.
